Why are 'bespoke' wedding cakes so expensive?
Quite simply because of the time involved in producing a custom designed cake.
Each cake is produced to the personal requirements of the client. Derek interprets their idea
for the perfect wedding cake and turns it into reality. This can take many hours of consultation, creative
input and only the finest ingredients to achieve.
What is the average price for one of Derek's cakes?
It is impossible to say; each cake is unique, and the cost is dependent on size and design.
Derek has created a range of Credit Crunch Cakes all at £300, however most clients spend between £400 and £700 for the bespoke cake of their dreams.
Handmade sugar flowers, fine doily work on cake boards and gold painting, for example, add many extra hours
of workmanship to your cake, but will create a huge impact and complement specific aspects
of your wedding day.

Why does the price of cakes vary so much?
Prices vary according to the size, number of tiers, decoration and intricacy of each, individual design.
Do you charge a delivery and set up fee?
Delivery and set up fee depend on mileage, but an average charge would be £50.
Derek cannot guarantee that he will be able to deliver and set up your cake personally
on your special day. However he relies on a dedicated team of experts to deliver each individual and unique creation.
Do I have to have fruit cake at my wedding?
No. Derek's cakes have been created in Rich Madeira, Lemon, Belgian Chocolate and Caribbean Coconut,
as well as his fabulously indulgent Fruit Cake; laced with Napoleon Brandy and 5 sorts of dried fruit.
Why not choose 3 or 4 tiers, each of a different flavour? Don't forget to have one tier in fruit to save for the Christening!
What happens when I have chosen Derek to create my 'bespoke' cake?
Having chosen Derek to create your custom designed cake you will have an initial consultation (be
prepared to drink many cups of tea, coffee or wine and sample his cakes), where we will discuss every
aspect of your wedding. Design ideas, thoughts on invitation and dress designs, flowers and food will be gone through;
so that we can best encompass your ideas into a unique design.
At the end of our first meeting it is hoped that you will have decided on shape, size, number of tiers, flavour and design.
Following this consultation Derek will send you a written quotation including the cost of delivery and setting up the cake.
If this is acceptable a 30%, non-refundable deposit will secure Derek's services, with the balance to be made available
2 weeks before the wedding.
